Transgender Day of Remembrance – November 20

LGBT+ organizations, human rights activists, and citizens marked the Transgender Day of Remembrance at Republic Square in Belgrade.

“This year, we lost 350 transgender people worldwide, and these are only the cases where we know that transphobia was the motive for the murder. These are mostly trans women and trans-feminine people, most of them young and people of color,” said Matija Stefanović from Da se zna!.

Participants reminded the public of the unfavorable position and discrimination faced by trans people in Serbia. Serbia still lacks adequate legal regulation of gender identity, specifically the Law on Gender Identity and the Rights of Intersex Persons, which would significantly facilitate transition and prevent systemic discrimination against trans people.
