Statement: Prime Minister Macut’s Remarks on the “LGBT Ideology” – Regrettable
In an interview with the Russian news agency TASS, Serbian Prime Minister Đuro Macut stated
that the “LGBT agenda is against traditional values and cannot be accepted by the state of
Serbia.” He also claimed that Serbia seeks to preserve its original values as the foundation of
social life and as a source of national consciousness.
Da se zna! considers the use of the term “LGBT ideology” to be discriminatory and
dehumanizing. By using this expression, Prime Minister Macut reduces citizens of Serbia who
have different sexual orientations or gender identities to an “ideology,” thereby denying the
existence of LGBT+ people and fostering negative attitudes and emotions.
As the Prime Minister of all citizens of Serbia, Prime Minister Macut should respect every
citizen. We regret that he uses his rare media appearances to spread prejudice and stereotypes
about LGBT+ people.
