Strengthening Resilience through Fighting Inequality – Access to Justice for LGBT+ Persons in Serbia

Project duration: July 2022 – October 2023
Donor: Embassy of the United States of America in Serbia
Project value: USD 46.310

Project description: The aim of the project was to strengthen the capacities of 20 representatives and activists of LGBT+ organizations in Serbia to provide direct support to victims of discrimination and hate crimes, compensate for the lack of institutional protection, and improve monitoring of such cases. Through trainings and the development of specialized curricula, activists increased their knowledge on handling victims and recognizing unlawful actions, while victims were provided safe spaces to share experiences. The project enabled the documentation and monitoring of criminal and civil proceedings, mapping of hate speech, and unequal treatment by authorities, with results distributed to institutions and the wider public, reaching 30,000 people via social media. Cooperation was also established with 10 public institutions, and local LGBT+ organizations increased their capacities by 20–30%, creating a network that supports LGBT+ rights and protection in Serbia long-term.
