At the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Association Da se zna!, we held a discussion titled: “The LGBT+ Movement in Serbia – Where We Were and Where We Are Now”, and the speakers were:
Dragoslava Barzut, Public Policy Program Manager at Civic Initiatives and founder of the Association Da se zna!
Dragana Todorović, Executive Director, EuroCentralAsian Lesbian* Community
Milan Nikolić, journalist at Insider TV
Bojan Lazić, Executive Director of the Association Da se zna!
The discussion was moderated by Matija Stefanović from the Association Da se zna!
We talked about the state of LGBT+ rights ten years ago and today, the founding of the Association Da se zna! and EL*C, since both organizations were established a decade ago, as well as the needs of the community these organizations aimed to address. We also discussed the specific position of lesbians and queer women within our movement, the relationship between civil society and the queer community with state institutions, as well as ethical media reporting and the importance of alliances built with the media.
We also reflected on the global situation and the situation in Europe regarding the position of LGBT+ people, and the ways in which it is reflected in our local context.
The discussion opened important topics and led to interesting conclusions, particularly emphasizing the necessity of uniting different groups and acting in solidarity in the shared struggle against the erosion of democratic values and human rights.
